  • Current disciplinary research interests

Conservation biology with a focus on conservation of biodiversity in managed ecosystems including agroecosystems, urban ecosystems, and forests. My work focuses on changes in avian populations over space and time but integrates social and economic parameters to better find effective conservation solutions.

  • Interest in connecting sustainability to research

Understanding what role biodiversity plays in creating sustainable systems forms the core of my research. This translates into teaching in two ways. First, working with students to communicate the functional role of biodiversity and appreciate is complexity for the benefits it provides and for its intrinsic value. Outside the classroom I am interested in understanding knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors associated with the decisions individuals make regarding biodiversity.
