Watson's Childhood 








John B. Watson was born in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, on January 9, 1878, into a very poor family.  Watson was the fourth of six children.
 
This is a photo of the house in which Watson lived as a child.  The house is still in existence, about 5 minutes north of Furman off of SC highway 276.

Watson's mother was very religious and wanted her
son to be a minister when he grew up.

Watson's father has been called lazy and delinquent. 
He left the family when Broadus was a youngster.
