Outside of our lecture halls, our students can be involved in several activities: The mock trial program, the Pre-law Society, and student political organizations. Whatever your interest, our department can connect you with classmates who share your interests.
The Furman Pre-law Society offers students interested in law school an introduction to the legal profession. The society helps potential pre-law students become more informed decision-makers as they develop their career goals. Connect with the Pre-law Society.
Pi Sigma Alpha
Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, is the only honor society for college and university students of government in the United States. Pi Sigma Alpha is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. There is at least one college or university with a Pi Sigma Alpha chapter in every state and the District of Columbia.
Pi Sigma Alpha is based in Washington, D.C. Its chapters are established in colleges and universities of accredited and recognized standing that offer a prescribed minimum program in political science. Pi Sigma Alpha is a prestigious organization that both encourages interaction among political science students and recognizes their achievements. Political science majors with a 3.5 or higher GPA will be notified if they are eligible for induction in spring of their senior year.
Our award-winning and nationally ranked mock trial program began in the Political Science department and is open to all students. Our teams compete in prestigious tournaments around the country each year, alternating between civil and criminal legal cases. Connect with our mock trial program.
Political Thought Club
Our political thought club meets weekly to discuss the works of great statesmen or political philosophers, such as Edmund Burke or Thomas Jefferson. If you are interested in joining or would like more information, please contact Dr. Jenna Storey.
Student Political Organizations
Our students may have differing political views, but the respect across partisan lines is evident on our campus. Furman has College Republicans, College Democrats, and Conservative Students for a Better Tomorrow.
