Prospective Students Political Science Furman University

At Furman, we know that political science can't be taught through lectures alone. Our faculty takes a hands-on approach, directing students in engaging discussions both in and out of the classroom. Political science majors at Furman gain real-world experience through internships, our award-winning mock trial program, and our partnership with the Riley Institute—a multi-faceted, non-partisan institute that provides an assortment of programs, symposia, and conferences on important public policy issues.

Because all political science majors are required to participate in either an internship or a study away program, the department is dedicated to finding internships to put you one step closer to your career goals. And Furman offers plenty of opportunities for study away, such as a semester in Washington, D.C or Brussels. No matter what your next steps are after graduation—from law school to a job at the White House to working for an international non-profit—we make sure our political science majors are well equipped.
