Katie Lowery, Class of 2014
Major(s): Political Science
This past summer I had the amazing opportunity to intern at Karl Rove's office in Washington, DC. I worked closely with Mr. Rove and his two other full time staffers, his chief of staff and research assistant. My routine duties included answering the phones, handling all correspondence that came through the office, drafting correspondence, handling his call list, and doing research for his Wall Street Journal column and appearances on Fox News Channel. I had the opportunity to witness first-hand the topics studied and discussed in my political science classes at Furman. Having this experience taught me so much about the interworkings of politics and all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. I am so grateful that Karl Rove's office welcomed me in with open arms and did not hesitate to give me difficult tasks right from the start. |
