Find your sound at Furman
Think it’s impossible to pursue a music degree, prepare for frequent performances, study a wide variety of subjects at a highly regarded university
—and still see Italy before graduation? You might want to reconsider. Because at Furman, you’ll have an opportunity to do it all.
Our music program is recognized as one of the best and most comprehensive among liberal arts colleges. We attract ambitious musicians across the globe who want to study and perform with our talented faculty and dedicated students. With degree programs for aspiring performers, composers and music teachers, we provide our students with one-on-one instruction, world-class performance facilities and studies in a broad range of musical genres. Our students even have the opportunity to experience Italian music and culture through our study away program in Arezzo.
Founded on the central principles of the liberal arts, our program also allows you to pursue your wide-ranging interests and ideas
—and still receive a conservatory-quality music education. You’ll explore how music is connected to other disciplines, and see things from multiple perspectives. And by the time you graduate, we’ll transform you into a first-rate problem solver, one who thinks deeply and develops creative solutions to complex problems.
Simply put, we turn impossibilities into reality. Discover how we’ll prepare you for every stage that awaits you in life.

Opportunities for non-majors
If you are pursuing another degree at Furman, you can still be a part of our music program. Non-majors are welcome in our ensembles, private lesson studios and practice rooms. With nearly 23 percent of Furman undergraduates involved in music, it's not unusual to meet an accounting major playing lead trumpet in a jazz ensemble or a mathematician performing a piano concerto.
