Decide which type of university application is best for you. Carefully review deadlines and criteria.
--Early Decision? --Early Action? --Regular Decision? Admission Deadlines and Application Details
1. Discuss the AUDITION DATES and AUDITION CRITERIA with your parents and your music teacher(s). Carefully review the type of application you will be making to the university (ED, EA or RD). Decide on the best audition date and prepare. Don't know your selections, yet? That's okay. Email your selections when known. Yes - you may apply and audition in two areas. What are the areas? Voice, Keyboard (piano/organ), Band (winds/percussion), Jazz, Strings (including harp and classical guitar), Composition. If you are seeking scholarship consideration, a live audition is recommended, though quality recordings may be submitted if distance does not permit you to travel to us. Recordings ARE sufficient for preliminary degree approval. 2. Request a music audition. Special application form required. Click on the audition menu items to the left for more details as to who, when, why and how. The Music Audition Application is available on our web site - the common application arts supplement is NOT sufficient - too general. Submit the music application directly to the music department, not to Admissions. We will schedule the times and confirm via letter/email. 3. Request that your private music teacher and your ensemble director (if you have one) submit a teacher recommendation on your behalf. The teacher may use our form (preferred) or submit a letter of recommendation - or both. Give them plenty of time and notice! If it arrives late, it may not be seen by the faculty.
Research and apply for everything you can! Some awards are based on your academics and do not require extra paperwork, some do. You and your parents need to Visit the Financial Aid web site or call FA directly for information about other awards for which you are eligible as well as guidance as to which awards require paperwork. Scholarships are a university's investment in your talents and potential, but competition is stiff. Show the schools why you are an above-average investment.
