Mary Grant began her career at Furman in 1998. In addition to teaching Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Intermediate Spanish, Mary directed the Study Away Program in Madrid (2004 and 2005) and co-directed the May X Program in Guatemala (2011).
Prior to teaching at Furman she spent 12 years at Michelin Tire Corporation at their North American headquarters in Greenville. There she was employed as a Spanish and ESOL (English as a Second Language) teacher at the Michelin French School. She also was a language teacher at Greenville High School, Hillcrest High School, and Christ Church Episcopal School – all in Greenville, South Carolina.
Additional activities and interests:
• Volunteer as a Spanish instructor for the Furman University OLLI Program (Adult Education).
• Volunteer as a Spanish instructor of elementary children at the St. Anthony’s Catholic School.
• Volunteer at the Greenville Humane Society.
• Board member of The Chris & Kelly HOPE Foundation – a non-profit fundraising organization dedicated to the treatment of adolescent addiction.
• Avid bicyclist.
