Mary Grant Began her career at Furman in 1998. Prior to teaching at Furman Mary spent 12 years at Michelin tire Corporation. She was employed as a Spanish and ESOL teacher at the Michelin French school and at the North American headquarters.

She also taught at Greenville High School, Hillcrest High School and Christ Church Episcopal School all in Greenville South Carolina.

Elementary Spanish I

Introduction to the sound system and grammatical structure necessary to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Spanish. An appreciation of Spanish-speaking culture underlies the orientation of the course.

SPN-120

Elementary Spanish II

Continuation of the skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) developed in first elementary course, with increased emphasis on vocabulary expansion, idiomatic expression, and cultural differences.

I attempt to show students how learning Spanish is relevant to the world in which we live and how they will benefit from learning Spanish. I create an environment that encourages students with their language skills. I am positive and passionate About the Spanish language . My passion for learning the Spanish language Is obvious and students feel welcome. I aim to provide an environment that is open and Not intimidating so that students will feel comfortable talking speaking Spanish. Motivation is key to a successful Language learning experience. I try to provide a classroom setting that will foster this Motivation. I Include a variety of methods and teaching styles to cater to a variety of learning styles. I am positive with my students and expect that same positive attitude in return. I have found that by creating a positive environment that most students have the desire and motivation to learn a foreign language. I enter the classroom with a big smile on my face.
