Eli V. Hestermann Ph.D. - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dr. Hestermann is the founding Executive Director of the Institute for the Advancement of Community Health at Furman University and is responsible for aligning its programs and initiatives with the stategic visions of both Furman Univerisity and Greenville Health System, where he also serves as Executive Director of Pre-professional Studies.  Dr. Hesterman has been a biology professor at Furman since 2003, with expertise in cell biology, pharmacology, toxicology and endocrinology and research interests in regulation of gene expression in cancer and environmental health.  He has been recognized as an outstanding undergraduate research mentor by both the South Carolina IdEA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.  He holds a B.S. in Biology from Purdue University, a Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and trained in cancer pharmacology at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School.


Susan Ybarra

Susan Ybarra is the Associate Director of the Institute for the Advancement of Community Health at Furman University.  She manges all aspects of daily operations of the Institute as well as assisting the Executive Director in the development and implementation of strategic programs and initiatives.  Ms. Ybarra facilitates the convening stake-holders and IACH partners around key health initiatives to work together in improving the overall health of the Greenville Community. She was the Pre-Health Internship Coordinator at Furman from 2008-2016 and has more than 15 years experience in healthcare administration and practice management in Texas and South Carolina.  Ms. Ybarra holds a B.A. from Furman University.

Melissa Fair joined the Institute for the Advancement of Community Healthy as the Community Action Director in 2016.  Melissa brings a wealth of community-based health promotion and evaluation expeience to the Institute through her longstanding relationship with LiveWell Greenville and their more than 100 community partnerships.  In this role, Melissa also serves as the Principal Investigator of LiveWell Greenville, overseeing the strategic direction of the LWG's evaluation activities and the coordination of a multi-disciplinary team of researchers from Furman, Clemson, and USC. A Greenville native, Melissa received a BS in Health and Excercise Science from Fruman University, her MPH from USC Arnold School of Public Health, and is currently a fourth year doctoral student at the USC Arnold School of Public Health.


Bradley Hobbs
Bradley Hobbs joined IACH in 2016, as the Health Care Education Program Manager.  Bradley oversees undergraduate internships and observership programs with Greenville Health System, including working with host GHS Departments on developing new opportunities for undergraduate students interested in health care and health care administration. He earned his B.S. is Secondary Education from Miami University (Ohio) in 2001 and is M.Ed. in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Wright State University in 2004.

Maddison Ritter who joined the Institute for the Advancement of Community Health in 2017, is the Institute's Post-Baccalaureate Fellow.  Madison aids in the implementation of greater community health through a variety of diverse programs both on Furman's campus as well as within the Greenville area.  Madison earned her B.S. in Neuroscience from Furman University in 2017.


Kate Burris serves as the Administrative Assistant for the Institute for the Advancement of Community Health.  She provides office management as well as administrative and event support for IACH. Kate has a B. S. in Therapeutic Recreation from Pittsburg State University and has worked as a Summer Residential Camp Director, Staff Recruiter, and Special Education Assistant before coming to Furman in 2017.
