INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

To see the internships available to Furman students, go to the Internship page.  Contact Ms. Susan Zeiger, the Internship Program Director, to start your search for an internship appropriate for academic credit through the English department. The English Department itself does not offer internships.

Two types of credit for an internship are available through the English Department:

1)  English 505 (Fall, or Communication Studies 505 in the Spring). This class is for major credit. Students work at a local firm or organization which provides ample writing assignments and the chance to learn about writing in a professional context. Students have interned at sites such as The Greenville Journal, the Greenville Hospital System Public Relations Office, local PR and advertising agencies, and local radio and television outlets. Students also attend a weekly seminar class in the evening.

2  English 503 (any term). This is an independent study course with a particular faculty sponsor, and is not for major credit. This class is appropriate for a student who has already taken 505 or whose internship does not constitute enough hours during the term for the four credit class.
