Research and Internship Opportunities Economics Furman University

Hollingsworth Undergraduate Research Program

This summer research program is designed to encourage collaborative research between faculty and students. All Furman students are eligible, but priority is given to economics majors with strong academic qualifications who have not yet graduated.

Each research team consists of one or two faculty members and one to three students. Projects are conceived by the student in consultation with a faculty member in the Economics department, or they may originate with the faculty member. A student need not have a project in mind in order to apply for the program. Participating students work approximately 320 to 400 hours (full time for 8 to 10 weeks); they may not attend summer school or hold other jobs, but they do receive a stipend for this work.

At the end of the summer, student participants draft a paper to present the results of their research at one or more seminars on the Furman campus during the subsequent academic year. Students should also expect to submit their results for presentation at an appropriate conference and/or for publication in an appropriate journal. Students should work with their supervising faculty member(s) to find suitable venues in which to present or publish the final research project.
