Marketing and Public Relations
Marketing and Public Relations maintains the university website and intranet, writes press releases, produces Furman Magazine and Inside Furman, organizes speaking events at FYI (Furman’s downtown venue), and acts as a liaison to the media. The department Chair is responsible for coordinating publicity for department events with Marketing and Public Relations so that the events can be announced, advertised, and perhaps included in various University publications. Significant events or accomplishments (student, faculty, or department) should be communicated to the Marketing and Public Relations offices.
It is useful to keep key stakeholders informed about developments in your department. Faculty achievements, student and recent graduate achievements, graduate and professional school placements, graduate job placements, internship placements, the number of graduates, the number of majors, grants awarded and requested by the department and its faculty, and department activities that occur throughout the year, such as invited speakers, special classes, or symposia are likely to be of interest to administrators, prospective students, current students, parents, alumni, granting agencies, and friends from the community. It is the department Chair’s responsibility to coordinate such communication, which often happens through emails, newsletters, and departmental websites. The Chair is responsible for making sure that the department website contains current and accurate information.
