Admission Office
Faculty are often called upon to assist in the recruitment of prospective students by meeting them during campus visits, participating in admissions events, and contacting accepted students by mail, phone, or email. The department Chair should ensure that someone in the department is available to assist the Admissions Office in such circumstances.
Fall for Furman and Spring for Furman are open admissions events that encourage prospective students to come to campus, take a tour, attend classes, and perhaps stay overnight in a dorm. Most of these students have not yet applied to Furman. The spring event has an academic fair associated with it, which requires a faculty member and one or two students from each department to be present on a Saturday to answer questions for prospective students and their parents. The Chair should ensure that the department is represented at these events.
On several afternoons during the spring semester, students who have been accepted to Furman will visit campus to hear presentations by departments and to have their questions answered by faculty and other university officials. The department Chair should make sure that someone from the department will be present at each “accepted student day” sessions.
