Lab Policies
Computer Configuration
Configuration changes are made only with the consent of the Lab
Coordinator. Commercial software shall not be installed on lab machines
without permission of the Department Chair or Lab Coordinator.
Saving Work
Always keep backup copies of your files. It is not possible to ensure
that personal files stored on the local hard drives will be safe. Work
should always be backed up to floppy disks, CD-RWs, or to the
appropriate class folder on the file server. The Department provides
server space for backup, but please do not keep multiple copies of the
same project on the server. Server space is cleared after every term.
Last Day of Term
The last day of classes is the last day the labs are officially open,
and all files on computers in 201, 202 and 203 are subject to removal
after this date. It is imperative that programs and projects be finished
before Study Day or the first day of exams, whichever comes first. This
policy allows the computers to be cleaned and reconfigured before the
lab assistants leave for their break and gives everyone a chance to
prepare for exams.
Research Machines
The research area in Riley Hall 202 is restricted to students who have
been granted a station. Research space is limited and workstations are
reassigned every term.
