Furman faculty have a deep history of community engagement through service learning courses, creative activity, teaching, research, and service. CEL works to support this ongoing work by helping to match community and faculty interest and expertise and support ongoing projects. We also provide opportunities for faculty, students, and community members to come together discuss best practices and opportunities for collaboration and learning together.

Through the CEL faculty fellows program and associated programming, faculty also share strategies for integrating community-based work into courses and explore opportunities for interdisciplinary research. In 2017, the CEL selected its first cohort of faculty fellows who will serve as liaisons to gather examples and best practices from across campus and in the community. In the summer of 2017, the fellows participated in a 4-day seminar to collaborate and share experiences, meet with community partners to explore synergies, and share resource needs and priorities with CEL staff.

Do you currently have a project or community-based research ideas or would like to get connected to a community partner? Need student fellows, training for students, project support, or other CEL resources? Contact us.
