I want to go into film production so having the film studies minor here was a big plus. I also really like the Communications department.
Life as a Communication Studies Major
- Why did you decide to come to Furman?
I really like the running community here. Greenville has a big running community and they offered me a scholarship to run on the cross country and track teams. I want to go into film production so having the film studies minor here was a big plus. I also really like the Communication Studies department.
- Why did you decide to be a Communication Studies major?
My advisor, Dr. Letteri, suggested that I take some Communication Studies classes because Furman doesn't have a film studies major. Through this major, I'm able to take classes that are aimed at film production.
- Favorite class:
Dr. Letteri in Communication Studies, and Dr. Hausmann in the English department. I find their classes really interesting. They include a lot of psychology and they really helped me outside of class. I got an internship last summer with National Geographic, which they helped me with.
- Career goals:
I want to go to film school and get my masters. Then, I'd like to go into broad directing or screenwriting.
- Internship experience:
I interned with the creative office at National Geographic in Washington, D.C. I was writing some blogs for the film archive and editing photos for image sales.
Best of List
- Best study location:
The cubicles in the library. I tend to study in my apartment more than anywhere else, but the cubicles in the library always seem to do the trick for me.
- Favorite activity:
- Best thing about Greenville:
- Favorite place to eat:
- Favorite Furman tradition:
I'm looking forward to the last day of classes, where we get to jump into the fountains.
- Best campus dining spot:
- Choosing a major:
It depends on what you want to do after college. My advisor was good about guiding me towards the major that would best fit my interests. If you don't know what you want to do, take your time.
- Getting involved on campus:
A lot of my time is spent with cross country and track. Then, with the film studies minor, we have little get-togethers sometimes. Furman also offers a lot of events over the weekends, like homecoming, that are always really cool to attend.
