Current Students Communication Studies Furman University

The theories and methods of communication extend far beyond our lecture halls. Conduct an independent research project. Explore a new land in our faculty-led study away program. Join the debate team. No matter your area of interest, our department has the resources and commitment to help you find and achieve your academic goals. Take advantage of the opportunities available to you.

Furman University Debate Society

Our debate team is an active student group jointly organized under the Communication Studies department and the student government. We offer a forum for students to engage in both friendly and competitive intellectual debate in weekly meetings, campus cultural life programs, and intercollegiate debate tournaments.

We encourage all levels of participation, whether your interest is competitive debate, public speaking, or just discussing the issues of the day over coffee. We do not expect students to have any previous experience in speech or debate, only an eagerness to learn and a willingness to consider new perspectives on controversial issues.

The paladin network

The Paladin Network is a television club that presents a weekly campus newscast. As a student, you can be engaged in all phases of the television broadcast, from research to anchoring. Check with the Communication Studies department for information on joining the club.

Research and internships

Whether you're interested in conducting research on communication technology or putting your skills to use in one of dozens of internship opportunities, our faculty is ready to assist you. Research with us.

Summer research & Internship Fellows

We offer one of the few programs in the country that directly funds student internships, offering competitive fellowships for students who would otherwise receive little or no payment. Apply for summer funding.
