Life as a Biology Major Why did you decide to come to Furman? Furman was the right fit for me. My dad was a professor growing up, and I got used to the idea of going to a small school. I wanted to have that sense of community, and wanted to have professors who were invested in me. Why did you decide to be a biology major? Process of elimination. My dad is a chemist, and I always used to say that I didn't want to do something science related. But I ended up really liking biology. I did research with Dr. Jason Rawlings in immunology. Best experience in the department: Doing research over the summer and getting to see hands on what we're capable of doing. This summer, we're going to a conference in Honolulu to present our work. So I'm really excited. Favorite professor: Dr. Jason Rawlings Internship experience: I shadow at the hospitals in Greenville during the school year. It's a great experience because I can follow doctors in different department, and see which field interests me. Best of List Best study location: I'm a fan of the library. I'm there all the time. Favorite activity: I like to run. I run half-marathons, and I usually train on the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Best thing about Greenville: Downtown. The restaurants are great and you can walk anywhere. Paris Mountain and all the hiking spots are also great. Favorite place to eat: Smoke on the Water. I love their mac and cheese. Helpful Tips Studying: Get into the habit of it. Once you get off to a good start, you'll keep it up. Getting involved on campus: Be proactive. Find activities that you enjoy. Furman has so many clubs and organizations that you should be able to find something that matches your interests.
