This program is for incoming freshmen. To participate, our students must commit to two semesters of Japanese language study and a First Year Seminar about Japan. Complete your application.

Explore Japan

Our trip itinerary varies depending on which professors lead the trip. In the past, we've gone to Kyoto, Osaka, and Tokyo. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn on this trip. We won't be in a traditional classroom, but at least one of the professors on the trip will be an expert on Japan. That means you'll have the chance to ask questions about the cultural and historical sites we visit.

Our accommodations

While we're in Japan, you'll be staying at hotels with your classmates and professors. You'll get the chance to sample authentic Japanese food both at local hotels and restaurants.

Our costs

The scholarship covers all of your travel-related expenses. You simply need to commit to two semesters of Japanese language and take a First Year Seminar on Japan.

"Like" the Summer Japan Experience Facebook page and read the students' testimonials and see the photos from JSE 12 and JSE 13. You are welcome to post your questions.
