Strother began her teaching career in Baltimore Maryland at The
Institute of Notre Dame. She and her husband Bob moved to Greenville in
1974 to work for the Greenville County School District.
It was during her tenure with the district that Strother had the
opportunity to experience teaching children at all grade levels,
including kindergarten through grade twelve. Strother was named
Secondary Art Educator of the Year by the South Carolina Art Education
Association in 1982, and in 1986 she was selected Teacher of the Year
by her colleagues at Wade Hampton High School. Strother has served as an
assessment specialist for the College Board's Advanced Placement Studio
Art Program and for the National Board for
Professional Teaching Standards. Strother has been recognized for her
accomplishments in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. In 2003 Strother
began teaching courses in Art Education and Book Arts at Furman
ther has been a professional bookbinder and restorer of Bibles and fine books for the past 30 years. Her hand bindery under the name of Strother Bookbinding is located in Greenville.
