If You Suspect a Student of Academic Misconduct

  • Gather all evidence related to the incident, which may include engaging the student in conversation about the assignment. Seek the counsel of you department chair or the Associate Academic Dean if you have question about the situation.
  • If you believe, after reviewing the evidence, that it is "more likely than not" that academic misconduct has occurred, confront the student with the evidence and your proposed penalty in the course using the "Academic Integrity Violation Form" available from the Associate Academic Dean or the chair of the Academic Discipline Committee.
  • Forward this form to the Associate Academic Dean, who will send it to the Academic Discipline Committee for further review.
For Furman's complete policies on academic integrity, see 121.5 and 190.6.
