|
William Brantley, professor of physics, has taught at Furman since 1966 — which places him second in rank among the faculty. He holds a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. Winner of the 2011-12 Alester G. Furman, Jr., and Janie Earle Furman Award for Meritorious Teaching, he also received, in 2005, the George B. Pegram Award from the Southeastern Section of the American Physical Society “for excellence in the teaching of physics.”
Of Brantley’s teaching abilities, a colleague has said, “I am convinced that through the efforts of Professor Brantley, many students have successfully completed the science requirement at Furman, and consequently graduated, that might otherwise not have done so. He frequently notes that physics is both difficult to learn and to teach. With this in mind he is readily available to provide extra help for his students. He is particularly dedicated to those with learning issues, spending countless hours with them.”
