Career opportunities
Studying theatre arts at Furman will give you the foundation to go anywhere in the entertainment industry. Our program produces a number of professional actors, but our graduates are also producers, costume designers, set designers, lighting and sound specialists, and theatre professors. Alumni from our program are working in TV, movies, on and off Broadway theatres, regional theatres around the country, and in higher education.
In addition to preparing our students through our curriculum, internship opportunities, performances, and study away program, we help send students to the Southeast Theatre Conference, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, the University/Resident Theatre Association and the Unified Professional Theatre Auditions. This is a chance for our students to meet with and audition for graduate schools and professional theatres.
Our home city has a thriving arts community with many opportunities for young artists to participate and engage with professionals, strengthening career prospects. When you're a student here, you can gain experience through a summer internship in one of Greenville's community theatres.
Best of all, you'll discover that a liberal arts degree is in high demand when you graduate. In addition to enhancing your technical skills, you’ll leave Furman knowing how to think critically, communicate effectively, how to learn, how to see things from multiple perspectives and how to evaluate and create. These are skills that can be applied to any career and it’s part of the reason our graduates are so successful.
