2012 Carolina Geological Society Meeting

2012: Annual meeting of the Carolina Geological Society

Furman hosted the 75th anniversary meeting of the Carolina Geologic Society. Dr. Ranson, Dr. Garihan, Dr. Muthukrishnan, and Jay Bridgeman ('12) lead field trips as part of the meeting. This society was founded at Furman in 1937. These photos are from the field trips conducted as part of this meeting from 12-14, October, 2012.

Field Studies in Iceland, May 2012

This is a May-Term study abroad program conducted by the department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. May 2012 represents the second iteration of this program and it was longer in duration and involved travel all around Iceland. The main purpose of this program was to study Geology, Sustainability, and Energy resources of Iceland. This was lead by Dr. Suresh Muthukrishnan and Dr. Brannon Andersen.
2010 Spring - Karst Studies in Mammoth Cave Region, KY

Karst Processes and Cave Systems (Spring Term)

The purpose of this field trip was to study and understand the processes and landscapes associated with karst terrains. The Mammoth Cave region in Kentucky provides an exceptional opportunity to study the worlds largest cave system. Students spend two days in Kentucky studying different karst features including exploration of caves and cave mapping techniques.
