Writing and Research Assignments
All of the assignments below were
created by Furman faculty for their FYS or FYW courses. Feel free to
use and modify these resources as will most benefit your needs. Please
contact Diane Boyd in CTL to discuss your seminar’s goals and assignments.
Introductory Writing: These assignments are designed to be used early in the term as ways of transitioning your students into college writing.
Process-Oriented Writing: These assignments are meant to highlight the writing process and to encourage students to consider each step as they move toward a finished product.
Analysis and Argument Assignments: These assignments focus specifically on helping students recognize and create sound academic arguments in writing. May or may not include a research component.
Research Assignments: These assignments include a research component that can help satisfy the “Information Fluency” requirement for FYW seminars.
