Helping students achieve academic and personal success through leadership development.

Foster the development of student leaders while emphasizing self-knowledge, initiative, commitment, collaboration and experiential learning; promote the ideals of citizenship and community service; and extend the opportunity and duty of leadership to all individuals within the Furman community and beyond.

The Shucker Center for Leadership Development is named in honor of former Vice President for Student Life at Furman, Dr. Harry B. Shucker. The Shucker Leadership Institute is the flagship program of the Shucker Center and has existed in some capacity since 1995. Other Shucker Center programs and offerings include the Furman Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), Furman Student Leadership Awards, StrengthsQuest programs and Team Building Services.
