Healthcare Today is an exciting new program that will offer you the opportunity to learn about various aspects of the healthcare industry. You will consider the major challenges and issues facing patients, providers, and communities while examining the roles and responsibilities of different healthcare professionals. You will learn how to develop the skills and competencies required to be a successful member of a healthcare team.
Healthcare Today provides you with the opportunity to fulfill one of your graduation requirements:
During the Fall 2014 semester, you will take FYW 1195: Psychic Disorder and the Social Order (which fulfills the first-year writing seminar graduation requirement) and will examine mental health, exploring how and why certain emotional states and patterns of thought become labeled as pathological or disruptive. You will trace the cultural meanings of mental illness from the nineteenth century to the present while considering the distinction between sanity and insanity. You also connect modern mental health debates to their historical origins while exploring the intrigue with the romanticized madwoman or charming sociopath encountered in fictional mediums
- During the Spring 2015 semester, you will have the opportunity to participate in coordinated field visits to local healthcare facilities to gain greater insight into how the healthcare system works.
Engaging Healthcare Beyond the Classroom
Healthcare Today will provide you with the opportunity to visit local healthcare facilities and organizations such as the Greenville Health System, The Hawkins Foundation, National Healthcare Corporation, and Greenwood Genetics while learning firsthand from local and national healthcare experts.
