Website Redesign
To better reflect the Furman experience to our digital audience, the office of web marketing has embarked on a redesign of furman.edu and a comprehensive overhaul of how content is delivered online.
These initiatives were prompted to improve how we're marketing our university to prospective students and to meet the needs of Furman's growing mobile audience. According to a survey conducted by our office, 36 percent of prospective students use a mobile device as their primary way of accessing information online. Our team also found that our mobile audience has tripled in the past year.
In an effort to enhance user experience across these devices, we have been working with Unit Interactive, a web marketing agency based in Plano, Texas, to develop a new site that will better appeal to prospective students. The new site will feature a responsive design, which will allow every web page to reformat itself to fit any screen, whether it's a mobile phone or desktop computer. This will ensure that no matter which device you are using, you will be able to easily read and navigate our site.
With assistance from Information Technology Services, we are planning to implement the new design this summer. This means that every department's page, from student life to biology, will have a completely new look. The content (text, images, and navigation) will not be immediately changed, and departments do not need to do any work in advance to prepare for these changes. However, our office is diligently working with each department to improve content across our sites. We expect this process to take about 18 months, and we will be contacting you when it is time to begin work on your site.
We look forward to working with you as we implement these new changes to our digital presence.
