Academic Year to Begin Aug. 24 with First Day of Classes; Freshmen Arrive Friday

GREENVILLE, S.C.—The 2011-12 academic year at Furman University will officially get underway Wednesday, Aug. 24 when students attend their first day of classes.
Approximately 800 freshmen will report to campus Friday, Aug. 19 and take part in orientation activities through Aug. 23. The rest of the university’s 2,700 students will begin arriving on Sunday, Aug. 21.
Furman will hold its opening convocation Thursday, Sept. 1 at 10 a.m. in McAlister Auditorium.
The fall term ends Dec. 6, while spring term begins Jan. 9 and ends April 24. Commencement will be held Saturday, May 5. The optional May Experience term will run May 9-30.
