GREENVILLE, S.C.—The Furman University Office of Admission has announced the formation of its inaugural High School Advisory Board.
Comprised of 17 high school guidance counselors from across the country, the board visited campus April 3-5 for the first annual meeting. In addition to learning more about Furman and its admission process, the board assisted in interviewing scholarship candidates for the John D. Hollingsworth and Charles H. Townes Scholarships.
The purpose of the High School Advisory Board is two-fold. Counselors have the opportunity to take an in-depth look at Furman and its offerings, and they are also able to provide invaluable feedback about improvements to the admission process and recruiting efforts. Board members serve a term of at least two years and are selected by nomination from admission staff members.
While visiting Furman in April, the current board enjoyed a dinner at White Oaks with Furman’s admission staff, as well as an open forum with associate vice president of admission Brad Pochard. The group also toured campus, spoke with current students and participated in discussions regarding Furman’s marketing strategy and research and internship opportunities. In addition, the group learned about Furman’s sustainability efforts, complete with a tour of the Shi Center for Sustainability.
