Furman Student Publishes Op-Ed in Praise of U.S. Agency for International Development
2/25/2011
Robert-Lawton Pratt, a Furman University political science major, has published an op-ed in The State newspaper in Columbia arguing that any plan to eliminate funding to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is detrimental to American national security.
“Ending our support of development and relief efforts around the globe, particularly in Afghanistan, would undercut our soldiers’ valiant efforts to defeat the same radical extremists who attacked America on Sept. 11, 2001,” he writes.
Pratt, a junior from Columbia, is interning this semester at the Near East and South Asia Center for Strategic Studies in Washington.
