Furman Graduate, Trustee Angela Franklin Named President of Des Moines University

Angela L. Walker Franklin, a 1981 graduate of Furman University, has been named president of Des Moines University, a private medical school in Iowa.
Dr. Franklin, who is also a member of the Furman Board of Trustees, currently serves as executive vice president and provost at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn. She served as acting president of Meharry during the summer of 2009 and holds a professorship in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the school.
Franklin, a native of McCormick, is a 1981 Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude graduate of Furman. She completed her Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 1985 at Emory University. She is in her third term on the Furman board.
