Rodney A. Smolla

Rodney A. Smolla is Furman's 11th president. A nationally recognized legal scholar, teacher, advocate and writer, he is one of America's foremost experts on issues relating to freedom of speech, academic freedom and freedom of the press. A graduate of Yale University and Duke University Law School, he has presented arguments in the U.S. Supreme Court and has testified before committees of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. He is a frequent media commentator and author of numerous books, including
The Constitution Goes to College, which was published in 2010.
