Kathleen C. McKinney is a shareholder in the Greenville, South Carolina office of Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. where she practices in the area of tax exempt bonds for hospitals and educational institutions.
Ms. McKinney is a past president (2009-2010) of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, a 3,000-member organization. In 2004, she chaired the Steering Committee of the Bond Attorneys' Workshop of NABL, the primary educational program of NABL. She has served as a faculty member of the NABL Fundamentals of Municipal Bond Law program and the Tax and Securities Law Institute. She assisted the General Assembly in drafting the Tax Increment Financing Law as well as the South Carolina Jobs-Economic Development Authority Act.
She serves as bond counsel for many of South Carolina's leading governmental and nonprofit hospital systems. Ms. McKinney has also been bond counsel for colleges and universities, foundations, and cultural centers.

The Best Lawyers in America®-Public Finance and Chambers USA and is a member of the Society of International Business Fellows.
South Carolina Lawyers Weekly presented Ms. McKinney with the "Leadership in Law Award" on August 26, 2010, that was presented to 17 SC lawyers whose accomplishments "represent the very best of the legal profession," according to the publisher.
She was also profiled in the August 2009 edition of
Greenville Magazine as one of "3 Local Lawyers Raising the Bar" and in the January 2010, she was named one of the "50 Most Influential" in Greenville.
Ms. McKinney is very active in National, State and the Greenville activities, and is one of five independent directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank Office of Finance, where she serves on the Board with 12 bank presidents of the Federal Home Loan Banks. She is a former chair of the Furman University Board of Trustees, and is past president of the South Carolina Children's Theatre and is currently Chairman of the Board of the Upcountry History Museum, which is operated by Furman University.
She also serves on the advisory board of Leadership South Carolina and is a founder of the Upstate South Carolina Alliance, an economic development organization encompassing 10 counties. Ms. McKinney is president-elect of the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities board of trustees.
