Jolley B. Christman

Jolley B. Christman
Jolley Bruce Christman, a Greenville native, graduated from Greenville High School. She earned a B.A. in history from Randolph College (founded as Randolph-Macon Women's College) and is a past president of its Board of Trustees.

Jolley holds a Ph.D. in education administration from the University of Pennsylvania. She taught English and history in a Philadelphia neighborhood high school and then worked in teacher eudcation for more than a decade. In 1992, Jolley founded Research for Action, a Philadelphia-based, non-profit organization engaged in education research and evaluation in urban schools districts across the country. Currently, she consults with foundations, school districts, and non-proifts to plan their strategic direction and assesses the impact of their efforts to improve the life chances of low-income youth. She is also associate faculty at the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education where she has taught since 1990 and where she received an Alumni Achievement Award. Jolley has authored more than two-dozen book chapters and journal articles and numerous reports on urban education. In 2008, Public Citizens for Childrend and Youth gave Jolley its Friend of Children Award.

She is the daughter of Mamie Jolley Bruce, whose original vision and founding endowment made Furman's nationally recognized Bridges to a Brighter Future a reality. Bridges has transformed the lives of more than 200 low-income youth, preparing them to be the first generation in their families to attend college. Jolley serves on the board of the Jolley Foundation in Greenville and the Fleisher Art Memorial and Philadelphia Public School Notebook in Philadelphia.

She has three children, Andrew, Kate, and Sarah.
