David Trone graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman in 1977 and earned his Masters of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvannia in 1985. He is the owner and president of Total Wine & More; a company he started with his brother, Robert, in 1991. The company operates 81 Wine superstores in fourteen states, and is the largest independent retailer of wine in the country.
In addition to serving as a member of the Furman Board of Trustees, David serves on the Wharton Entrepreneurial Advisory Board at the University of Pennsylvannia and on The Bullis School Board of Trustees in Potomac, Maryland. As a member of The Bullis School Board of Trustees, he serves as the head of the Development Committee and the Capital Campaign Committee.
David and his wife, June, have four children, one of whom graduated Furman in 2012.
