Water sports
South Carolina is known for its bodies of water. That's because our home state has something for everyone, from golden sand beaches to world-class rivers and lakes. When you're a student here, it won't be long before you're invited on a fishing or whitewater rafting trip with one of your classmates.
Experience whitewater rafting
One of the upstate's unwritten rules is that you can't leave without taking at least one whitewater rafting trip. Four rivers
—the Chattooga, French Broad, Nantahala, and Pigeon
—are less than two hours from Furman, making them great weekend trips for whitewater rafting.
Go boating
Lake Hartwell is a mere hour from campus. It’s the perfect place to rent a boat and spend a day on the water. You can fish, sail, waterski, or simply catch some rays.
Grab a paddle
For every whitewater rapid in South Carolina, there's a lazy river where you can calmly paddle your way downstream. Rent a boat or kayak from a local marina, or check one out from the Furman University Outdoor Club.
Take a tubing trip
If you’re looking for something a little more low key, many of the waterways around Furman are great for tubing. Tubing companies will rent you tubes and provide transportation back up the river.
