Aristide (Ty) Tessitore received an A.B. in Literature and Psychology from Assumption College (1972) and M.Div. from Weston School of Theology (1976), before completing a Ph.D. in Political Science at Boston College (1985), with a concentration in political philosophy.
Dr. Tessitore is author of Reading Aristotle’s Ethics (State University of New York Press, 1996) as well as editor and contributor to Aristotle and Modern Politics (University of Notre Dame Press, 2002). He has published numerous articles in classical political philosophy and literature that have appeared in theAmerican Political Science Review, Political Theory, Journal of Political Science, Polity, Review of Politics, and Southern Journal of Philosophy. His teaching and study of modern political thought have also led to publications on Thomas Jefferson, Alexis de Tocqueville, and Friedrich Nietzsche.
Over the years, Dr. Tessitore has taught a wide variety of courses in religion, philosophy and political science, often in interdisciplinary contexts. He currently teaches courses in the history of political thought at Furman University, and was the recipient of the University’s top award for teaching-excellence (2002).
He is also the recipient of grants from the NEH, Mellon, Bradley, and Earhart Foundations for both research and teaching.
