This program ended at the end of the 2012.13 year.  We will be reappLying for the HHMI grant at the end of the current four-year cycle.

Twenty high-achieving students will be selected to perform research with a Furman faculty mentor in the summer of 2012, continuing into the following school year, and ideally beyond.

Specifically, this program includes:

  1. An introduction to data handling and scientific ethics during a 2-credit May Experience course in 2012.
  2. A stipend of $3,500 for 10 weeks of summer research. The university will also provide housing at no charge.
  3. An academic year stipend of $1,500 to continue research for 10 hours/week throughout the academic year as a sophomore.
  4. A seminar in scientific research beginning in the summer and continuing throughout the academic year. The HHMI seminar is awarded two academic credits per year, one per semester.
  5. Fellows will be encouraged to continue research beyond their sophomore year. Additional funding is available to support these activities.

Congratulations to all our 2012-13 HHMI Undergraduate Research Fellows!
