Furman offers India Study Abroad program during the fall semester of every other year (usually odd years). The program objectives, courses, and directors vary every time. In 2011, this program was offered for the first time with an interdisciplinary science focus and was designed to have an intensive six-week course work at Furman, followed by a five-week residential experience at Madras Christian College (MCC) in Chennai, India. This was then capped with a 4 week travel experience from south to north India. In fall 2011, this program offered an array of closely connected and interdisciplinary courses exploring the natural environment, natural resources, population dynamics, urbanization, natural and anthropogenic hazards, gender, developmental psychology, poverty, health, culture, and sustainability.
