Initial Course Election (ICE)
Department chairs review ICE results during the “quiet” portion of our registration period for each semester after receiving notification from Academic Records that the ICE batch has completed and prior to student course schedule release. This is a prime moment for modification to section offerings (or section enrollments) based on unanticipated mismatches between course section supply and student demand.
On occasion, departments find it useful to pre-enroll (override) selected students into a required course to ensure that the students graduate on time. Pre-enrollments should not occur without student consent. Pre-enrollments assign students to a class prior ICE. Students who are pre-enrolled need not put the course on their ICE request form. Department assistants can used Datatel to execute a chair’s pre-enrollment requests.
