Careers

Furman students have taken their knowledge of Latin, Greek and Classical civilization into many different careers: top law schools, graduate schools and divinity schools, as well as jobs in teaching, business and medicine.

Students who are interested in careers in business, law or medicine, will profit from any Latin, Greek or Classics course. For law, courses in Latin and Roman Civilization are probably most appropriate. For medicine, Greek will be more useful.

Currently there is a great demand for Latin teachers in public and private high schools. Students interested in graduate study in Classics, ancient history, or archaeology can prepare themselves by majoring in either Latin or Greek, or by doing an interdisciplinary major that combines both languages and a selection of other relevant courses.

Students interested in divinity school, seminary or graduate study in religion can gain a big advantage by taking the introductory Greek sequence and New Testament Greek. If you think that you are interested in the history of the early Church, then Latin will serve you well.
